An alleged road rage attack in Auckland has left a man in hospital with two broken legs which may have to be amputated.
The incident began when a man jumped out of his car and stood in front of a parked Saab car in Mt Eden Rd yesterday morning, The New Zealand Herald reported today.
A witness said that "some sort of commotion" then occurred between the man and the driver which ended when the Saab accelerated away knocking down the man.
As the victim lay on the ground screaming in agony, the driver sped off without checking his injuries.
The injured man had surgery in Auckland City Hospital for multiple breaks to both legs.
It is understood the injuries are not life-threatening but he is in danger of losing his legs.
A hospital spokesman said this morning the man was in a stable condition.
Police said the Saab driver had come forward after the incident and was "assisting police with inquiries.”
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said she expected there would be charges laid.
