Former foster parent jailed for sex offences

A former foster parent and Child, Youth Family caregiver has been jailed for sex offending against girls.

John Alexander Lindsay, 60, this week started an 11 year nine month jail term after being found guilty, following a jury trial in Christchurch, on eight charges.

The Christchurch Court News website reports Lindsay maintained his innocence and showed no remorse for the offending, which mainly took place while he and his wife fostered children at a family home during the 1980s and 1990s.

Judge Raoul Neave imposed a  five year six month non-parole term on the charges of unlawful sexual connection, attempted rape and intercourse, and sexual grooming of a girl aged 9.

Senior constable Steve Heyrick, of Gore, who was to have given evidence at the trial, said today Gore police had been involved in the investigation  late last year.

The offending took place in Gore and Christchurch.
