Sportsman remanded on assault charges
A sportsman has appeared in the Alexandra District Court and remanded in custody without plea to appear in another district court on July 7.
He is facing charges stemming from an incident in which it is alleged he punched a woman in the face outside a Queenstown nightclub early yesterday morning.
The charges are escaping custody, resisting arrest, assaulting a female and assaulting police.
The judge issued wide-reaching suppression orders, including suppression of name, occupation, past career and any details likely to lead to identification. He has also suppressed the name of the bar where the incident took place and the court where the accused is to appear on July 7.
