Invercargill police are calling for the public's help after a near-naked man was found unconscious near an Invercargill gang headquarters yesterday morning.

Detective Ant King said the 32-year-old man was found in a reserve near the Road Knights headquarters, on Balmoral Dr, just after 8am. The man had "obviously been physically assaulted".

Mr King declined to give further details on the man's injuries, but said the man was taken to Southland Hospital and his condition could be described as steady. Part of Balmoral Dr was cordoned off while police examined the scene.

Police would like anyone with information about the incident to contact Mr King at the Invercargill police station.
