Teen admits campground sex attack on five-year-old

A 16-year-old Turangi boy has pleaded guilty in Taupo Youth Court this morning to the violent sexually motivated attack on a five-year-old girl at a holiday park before Christmas.
The youth, whose name is supressed, pleaded guilty before the judge to three separate charges; sexual violation by rape, burglary, and causing grievous bodily harm at Club Habitat, Turangi on December 21.
He was remanded to reappear at a district court on February 23.
The girl was attacked as she lay sleeping in her parents' caravan with her three-year-old brother around 10pm on the night.
Her parents were in an amenity block less than 20 metres from the caravan when the attack occurred.
The mother was unable to reach her daughter because the caravan had been locked.
The youth fled before she could alert her husband.
After extensive enquiries police arrested the youth and charged him with the offending.
Detective Inspector Mark Loper called the attack at the time the worst he has experienced in 28 years policing.
An angry crowd gathered outside the Taupo court when the youth made his first appearance on December 29.
At his second appearance last week, in a prayer read to the court by his mother, the youth asked God to "make him a man without hate, anger and stress."
The youth had attended a family group conference before pleading this morning.
