Police warn of counterfeit notes

Police have warned business that counterfeit notes are being used in the Tauranga area.

Fake $10 and $20 notes have surfaced in the Bay of Plenty, senior sergeant Glenn Saunders said.

Saunders urged the business community to use vigilance when handling the notes and be particularly aware of people wanting to swap the $10 and $20 notes for a larger denomination.

Police were following a number of leads to identify the source of these false notes. Anyone who comes into possession of any of the counterfeit notes is asked to contact their nearest police station.
