A 21-year-old is being sought by Gisborne police after he assaulted a constable this afternoon and then ran off.
The Gisborne man, Fabian Thomas Miller, is described as Maori with short dark hair and brown eyes. He is slim and about 170 cm tall.
He was wearing a dark baseball cap, skinny jeans and a light brown puffer jacket at the time of the assault, Sergeant Joanna Chalmers said.
Police are warning people not to approach him but to pass on any information to 06 869 0200.
