A 64-year-old Blenheim man has appeared in Blenheim District Court on 45 sex charges, including the rape of young girls.

The man, who was granted interim name suppression, faces two charges of raping a girl aged under 12 and one charge of raping a girl aged between 12 and 16.

He also faces 10 charges of unlawful sexual connection to a girl under 12, three charges of unlawful sexual connection on a girl aged 12 to 16, three charges of indecent assault on a girl aged 12 to 16 and 26 charges of indecent assault on a girl under 12.

The man is due to reappear in court on June 5.
