A woman shot in the head yesterday morning has come through surgery to remove the bullet and is now in a stable condition.
Police responded to an emergency call at 1.30am this morning in Druces Rd, Manukau, where they found a 60-year-old woman had been shot.
She was rushed by ambulance to hospital where a CT scan revealed there was a bullet lodged in her head. Surgery was required to remove the bullet.
Middlemore Hospital staff said the woman remained in intensive care but was now in a stable condition.
A 60-year-old man was arrested and appeared yesterday in the Counties Manukau Court on a charge of assault.
He was remanded in custody and will reappear again on Monday.
Police have not ruled out further serious charges being laid.
Police have located a firearm and a shell casing. An area canvas has been completed and witnesses interviewed. Police said no-one else was being sought in relation to this incident.
