A Hawke's Bay woman is being airlifted to hospital in Hastings after being shot in the head.
Police central communications Inspector Paul Jermy said police were called about 6.10pm to a house in Kereru, about 20km inland from Hastings.
The call was received from another person at the house and Hastings and Flaxmere police got to the scene about 40 minutes later.
The shooting comes a week after a South Auckland woman survived a shot to the head.
Surgeons were able to remove the bullet from the head of a 60-year-old Manukau woman.
A 60-year-old man was taken into custody and subsequently charged with assault.
