A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting leading Auckland fashion designer Denise L'Estrange-Corbet.

Kenneth James Davern appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday charged with assaulting the World boss on March 24.

Davern pleaded not guilty and was remanded at large to reappear in the court on September 11.

The 53-year-old is listed online as the company director of MarinaBerths.com - a company which buys and sells marina berths throughout New Zealand.

It's not known what his relationship with L'Estrange-Corbet is.

Both Davern and L'Estrange-Corbet declined to comment when contacted about the alleged incident.

L'Estrange-Corbet was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2002.

She started World with her former husband Francis Hooper more than two decades ago.

The company now has more than 10 stand alone stores and has recently opened a number of World branded beauty stores.
