Police seized around 500 cannabis plants from a growing operation in Cambridge.

A tip-off has led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man in Cambridge following the seizure of 500 cannabis plants.

Western Waikato CIB staff, along with Cambridge police, searched a warehouse on Wordsworth St on Friday, Area Commander Inspector Nalia Hassan said.

Inside the warehouse, police discovered a large commercial cannabis growing operation.

As a result, a man was arrested and was to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Friday to face charges relating to the manufacture of cannabis oil, cultivation of cannabis, possession of cannabis for supply and the possession of drug related equipment, Hassan said.

"Police as a whole take the damage caused to the community by the illicit drug trade very seriously and here in the Waikato we take a whole of District approach to large scale criminal activity."

Hassan said police hoped highlighting the arrest would further encourage members of the community to come forward and help reduce the impact drugs have on society.

Anyone wishing to report something can contact police directly, or leave information anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
