A man who allegedly shot at a policeman leaving him with bullet grazes has appeared in court this morning.

Murray Toleafoa faces charges of attempted murder and of using a firearm in relation to the incident which occurred after a police officer pulled the car in which he was travelling over on Mayoral Dr on June 1.

It is alleged Toleafoa fired the pistol, similar to a police Glock, from a passenger seat in the car, narrowly missing the officer before hitting a concrete wall across the road.

He appeared at court via video link and has been ordered to reappear for a post-committal conference on August 16.

He has been remanded in custody.

Toleafoa was arrested at a central city supermarket on June 12, with two associates.

The 20-year-old woman allegedly driving the car when the alleged shooting occurred, Nadia Bell, is facing a charge of being party to unlawful possession of a pistol.

The officer sustained a gunshot burn to his forearm.
