A suspected arson attack has gutted an abandoned property in Christchurch's residential red zone.
A Fire Service spokesman said the two-bedroom unit in Alloway St, off Avonside Dr, was "extensively damaged" after a fire raged through it about 11pm yesterday.
Firefighters from New Brighton spent about two hours at the property.
"It is being treated as suspicious," he said.
Fire safety investigators and police will be at the scene today.
