Armed police surrounded a rural Hamilton property last night after a security guard reported being shot at while checking on a person on home detention.
Detective Sergeant Shelly Begbie of the Hamilton CIB said the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Armed Offenders Squads were called to the large Tamahere property after the report, about 9pm.
"When the guard arrived at the property's gates he reports being shot at and he left to raise the alarm." She said officers later negotiated the "surrender" of a man and woman.
Begbie said a scene examination would be carried out today.
"As a result of an indoor growing operation discovered during the initial clearing of the property, a 27-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman have been charged with cannabis cultivation and will appear in the Hamilton District Court later today.
"Our inquiries are continuing and we have not ruled out further charges."
