Hawera police are on the hunt for two men after a school student was allegedly shot in the bottom with a BB gun.
Sergeant Kim Severinsen said two students were biking in the Burns, Ropata and Douglas St area between 1.45pm and 2.30pm on Friday when a car pulled up and someone fired two shots.
"It's pulled up alongside the students and the driver has fired one shot hitting the student in the buttock," Mr Severinsen said.
"The passenger has also fired a shot and hit the bicycle wheel."
Police are looking for a bronze or silver Ford Mondeo car and a matt-black air pistol, Mr Severinsen said.
"After firing the shots they have driven off in the direction of the Hawera township."
Mr Severinsen said police would like to hear from anyone with information about the car or shooters.
"The driver is described as a male Maori, in his 20s, with a short number one haircut and solid build. The passenger is described as male Maori with short hair, in his late 20s wearing a white singlet with orange writing."
"It's important that we get information because its reasonably serious," Severinsen said.
