The identity of the 25-year-old man accused of killing Kapiti teenager Izak Millanta can now be revealed.

Manawanui Stewart, unemployed, of Titahi Bay, appeared in Porirua District Court this morning and was remanded in custody with no plea until next month.

He is charged with the manslaughter of Millanta, who was found unconscious in a car park at Coastlands Mall, Paraparaumu last month and later died in hospital. He is also charged with grievous bodily harm on another person.

A judge had to call for calm during Stewart's court appearance today.

Friends and family of 17-year-old Millanta packed one side of the court's public gallery, with supporters of the accused on the other side.

One person from Millanta's side called out: "I can see my son dead''.

Someone from the opposite side called to the accused: "Love you man".

Judge Jan Kelly warned she would close the court if people continued to call out.
