Police have arrested three men after a 24-year-old man was stabbed during a party in the Bay of Plenty.

Emergency services were called to a Church Street property in Opotiki at about 2am, and found the man with stab wounds to his back and lower body, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen said.

The man was stabbed during an altercation, allegedly by three people. The man is being treated at Whakatane Hospital.

Standen said his conditions did not appear to be life threatening.

Three men, two aged 16 and one aged 22, appeared in the Whakatane District Court this afternoon, charged with various offences including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

"We are continuing our enquiries into this incident and have a number of people still to talk to," Standen said.
