A New Plymouth prisoner needed hospital treatment yesterday after being assaulted by another inmate in a secure yard at the jail.
The man was attacked about 11am.
Acting prison manager Paul Vlaanderen said a remand prisoner had been taken to hospital following the assault.
Vlaanderen said prisoners in the yard were returned to cells.
