A high-risk child sex offender is on the run after stealing a car from a Kapiti dealership, police say.

Police are appealing for sightings of 47-year-old Darren Albert Jolly.

Multiple arrest warrants had been issued for jolly in relation to alleged breaches of an extended supervision order.

Jolly left Wellington last Wednesday and was believed to have stolen a blue Honda Civic sedan, registration AYT134, from a Kapiti car dealership.

A police spokesman said Jolly had a history of failing to stop for police and was known to drive dangerously at high speeds to avoid being arrested.

Police believe Jolly had been in Taupo and Hamilton and may be heading for Auckland. 

He had known connections in Wellington, Taranaki, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Auckland.
