Police are understood to be talking to two men after a suspected firearms incident in the Wellington suburb of Johnsonville.

Inspector Terry Van Dillen said a woman came into Johnsonville police station this afternoon and said she saw what she believed to be a firearm being pointed out the window of a house.

The Armed Offenders Squad and a canine unit were then sent to an Ironside Rd address and neighbours told by police to stay inside.

"It's always a big deal with firearms, we always treat things most serious until we can prove otherwise," Van Dillen said.
