The man accused of murdering Charanpreet Dhaliwal on his first night as a security guard has pleaded not guilty and will go to trial in September.

The 27-year-old man, assisted by a Tongan interpreter, appeared at the High Court in Auckland this morning.
Dhaliwal, 22, was found dead at a Fulton Hogan construction site on Selwood Rd, Lincoln North, on November 18 last year.

He was working his first shift as a security guard when he was struck in the back of the head and killed.

The accused's lawyer Lorraine Smith asked for a remand to next month to sort out pre-trial matters.

His name remains suppressed.
