A murder charge has been laid against a woman over the death of Rotorua woman Michelle Hoffman-Tamm.

A 44-year-old Rotorua process worker, Gwenda Sloane, entered no plea to a charge of murdering Hoffman-Tamm when she appeared in the Rotorua District Court today.

Sloane, also known as Gwenda Pluss, had previously appeared in court charged with assaulting Hoffman-Tamm. The assault charge has now been withdrawn.

Judge Chris McGuire remanded Sloane in custody to reappear on Wednesday December 12.

Hoffman-Tamm's body was found on November 22 in an area of forest close to SH38, about 10km out of Murupara.

She was last seen in the late afternoon of November 7, when she left her home on her bicycle.
