Police arrest a man they say was armed with a pistol when demanding money from an assistant at a TAB in the Gonville area of Whanganui.

Police said the man left with a quantity of cash after the incident about 10.40am today.

Three members of the public were in the Puriri St premises at the time. No one was hurt, Detective Sergeant Varnia Allan said.

The offender drove off in a white Subaru Impreza car parked nearby on Rimu St.

A 23-year-old Whanganui man charged with aggravated robbery would be appearing in Whanganui District Court tomorrow.

Anyone with information about the robbery was asked to contact Detective Chay McArthur at Whanganui police on 06 349 2827
