A man has been arrested following an altercation where one man was stabbed and a woman injured.

Police Detective Sergeant Peter Middlemiss said a man went to a house in Porirua this morning where he got into a physical confrontation with a female friend.

When police arrived at the Mungavin Avenue address at 10.45am they found her with significant facial wounds.

Middlemiss said another male, a 22-year-old Porirua man, became involved during the altercation and as a result received several stab wounds to his head.

He was later taken to Wellington Hospital for treatment, as was the 26-year-old woman.

A short time later, a 46-year-old Porirua man was arrested at another address in connection with the altercation and charged with wounding with intent.

Police were asking for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
