Police are searching for an Auckland couple who unwittingly snapped themselves on a stolen smartphone.

The iPhone was stolen on December 5 during one of two house burglaries in Avondale.

Unluckily for the alleged thieves, the owner of the phone had installed a programme that emails them any new photos taken on the device.

Police are urging anyone who may know the couple pictured to call them on (09) 302 6400.
