A gang member who was on the run after cutting off his electronic bracelet has been found hiding under a bed in South Auckland.

Teariki Marsters appeared in the Manukau District Court today charged with stealing a Mercedes Benz while armed with a shotgun and breaching bail. He was remanded in custody.

Marsters, 24, was last week the subject of a police manhunt after cutting off his electronic bracelet nine days after being bailed to a Tuakau address.

Police claim Marsters stole the Mercedes while on the run.

A police spokeswoman said after identifying a stolen car at a Bairds Rd house in Otara yesterday, police searched a nearby address where they found Marsters "hiding under a bed".

Another man at the address admitted stealing the vehicle and was due to appear in the Manukau District Court charged with unlawful taking.
