Police have charged a 20-year-old Invercargill man in relation to an alleged sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl at Oreti Beach in Southland on Saturday.
The man is expected to appear in the Invercargill District Court today.
Invercargill police thanked members of the public for their assistance.
They would also like to hear from any one who may have been at Oreti Beach about 4pm on Saturday.
There was a large number of people present on the beach at the time and police are keen to hear from anyone who might have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area.
The alleged incident occurred in the sand dunes about 50 metres south of the main entrance to the beach.
