A man accused of murdering Featherston supermarket worker Glen Jones has taunted police during a court appearance.

Kristofer Jones, 23, repeatedly pulled the finger, mouthed words and grinned at an officer during a brief appearance at the Masterton District Court yesterday.

He smiled at supporters and yelled, "Tell the truth", when led away to the cells.

Yesterday police added a charge of murder against Jones, as well as co-accused Matthew McKinney, 28, Hayden Ranson, 27, and Tariana Jones, 32.

The four already face charges of entering Glen Jones' home last month armed with a wooden bat and an axe handle. None of the Joneses are related.

A fifth person, Toni Miller, 22, faces only the original armed burglary charge.

Judge Peter Hobbs continued bail for Miller and Tariana Jones, despite the addition of the new, more serious, charge for Tariana Jones.

He also lifted a non-communication bail condition for Miller, meaning she can now contact her co-accused, McKinney.

McKinney's lawyer, Mike Antunovic, said the pair were in a relationship and had a child together.

Police supported the lifting of the condition, he said.

The three male accused were remanded in custody, with all five to reappear in court in April for a plea-evaluation hearing. The group are yet to enter pleas to the charges.

Glen Jones' body was found at his Fitzherbert St flat in the early hours of January 12.
