An offender with more than 90 convictions for burglary, violence and sex crimes is on the run.

William John Murphy failed to appear in the Auckland District Court for sentencing two weeks ago and has since cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet.

He was bailed to a house in Hyperion Dr, Manurewa, but has not returned there.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Police have listed Murphy as a "top priority offender" and said he "poses a real threat to the community".

Murphy had previously been bail checked at an address in Etherton Dr, Weymouth, but has not returned there either.

Police said, according to Murphy's father, he was staying with his girlfriend somewhere in the Manurewa area, "but it is not known who his current girlfriend is or where she lives".

Murphy also has contacts in Northland.

Anyone with information about Murphy's whereabouts can call the police northern communications centre and notify the Counties Manukau crime squad on 0274 974 912.
