A 55-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a Gisborne woman who died in a house fire.

Mary-Ann August-Akuhata, 48, died from the injuries she received from the fire on October 10, 2012.

The man will appear in Gisborne District Court this afternoon. He was known to the woman who lived in the house. Gisborne police will oppose bail.
