Two Gisborne women in their mid-twenties have been arrested and charged with the murder of Amandeep Singh, who was found dead on a beach in January.
Singh was found on Kaiti Beach, Gisborne, on January 24 after having been reported missing on January 1.
Police said they believed he died on the night of December 29.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Scott said Singh was an Indian national who immigrated to New Zealand in 2010.
“He has worked as a field worker in various locations around the central North Island,” he said.
“Mr Singh has a wife in Tauranga and has family in India.”
Scott said Singh’s immediate family had been advised of the arrests.
The arrested women had been remanded in custody until Friday, March 15 where an application for bail would be made.
