The large window of Peaches & Cream in Dunedin was broken in a smash and grab and lingerie was taken off a mannequin.

Lingerie was taken off a shopfront mannequin in a daring raid of a Dunedin adult store.

Police are investigating the smash and grab at Peaches & Cream on Princes St early on Thursday morning.

EPL Group general manager Matt Bathgate confirmed only a set of lingerie, which was removed off a mannequin, appeared to be taken.

"It was a random opportunist, that's what I think it is.

"This wasn't a big burglary, but a real inconvenience that someone decided they desperately needed this bit of lingerie and can't come in."

The items were likely to have been worth under $100, and "they could have put it on layby".

The large smashed window had already been replaced and CCTV footage was being reviewed, which would be supplied to police, he said.

"It is a real pain we have to go through this for some little low life."

Police attended the scene and had taken fingerprints, a police spokeswoman said.
