A woman who was allegedly drunk behind the wheel of a car in an accident that killed a Hamilton woman and injured three others has appeared in court.

Amanda Catherine Lowery, 42, of Nawton, faces eight charges: three careless driving causing injury, one careless driving causing death and excess breath alcohol causing death and three excess breath alcohol causing injury after the crash on State Highway 23 in Whatawhata on February 14.

Lowery was remanded without plea and ordered to reappear in Hamilton District Court next month.
