Woman in hospital following sexual assault on Waiheke Island
A woman has been rushed to hospital following an alleged sexual assault on Auckland's Waiheke Island.
The 20-year-old woman had been at a party in Oneroa, on the western side of the island, when the incident occurred about 3.30am on Sunday.
The Westpac Auckland Rescue Helicopter flew her to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Geoff Baber of Auckland City Police said police were investigating the alleged assault.
"A scene examination has been carried out and a number of partygoers have spoken with police."
Baber said enquiries were ongoing.
"Any matter of this type is a sensitive issue and the care and welfare of the victim is our priority.
"No further information is able to be released at this time."
