A teenager charged after a fatal shooting in the Lower Hutt suburb of Petone a week ago, has been remanded in custody at his second court appearance.
Dillin Pakai will turn 19 in two weeks. His birthday will be in prison as a result of the decision of Judge Stan Thorburn in the Wellington District Court today.
Pakai's lawyer, Kevin Smith, applied for bail for Pakai. The Bail Act forbids publication of details of bail hearings.
Pakai was charged a week ago with unlawful possession of a .22 pistol and burglary of a Jackson St, Petone, flat.
Those charges were relaid today so they are now alleged to have occurred with Shane Pierre Harrison, 43.
There was also a fresh charge against Pakai to duplicate one Harrison already faces of recklessly discharging a firearm. Police have said previously that a shot was fired at a breadvan on State Highway 2, near Horokiwi. The van driver was not injured.
Pakai is next to appear in Hutt Valley District Court on September 17, when Harrison is also due in court.
The charges have been laid as police investigate the death of Alonsio Iafeta Matalasi, 25, who was shot dead in Petone last week.
