A sworn Auckland police officer has admitted to smuggling contraband into prison.
Lotovale Ulufafo Solofa Perese, 42, of Henderson, pleaded guilty in the Waitakere District Court today to 18 charges of supplying contraband to prisoners.
He was remanded on bail to reappear for sentencing on December 17.
He originally faced 35 charges but they were amended, with 17 withdrawn by police. Some of the remaining charges are representative and relate to contraband smuggled into Mt Eden Prison and Auckland Women's Regional Corrections Facility.
Perese, a police officer on the Waitakere District Court prison escort team and a policeman for 11 years, faces a maximum sentence of three months prison.
