The armed man was described by police as a "slim and pale-skinned Maori".

Hawke's Bay police have released pictures of the man who robbed a Gull station at gunpoint last week.

An attendant was shaken but unharmed during the aggravated robbery in Omahu Rd, Hastings, about 1.30am on May 12. 

The armed man fled with cash and tobacco in an orange plastic bag, in a two-door coupe driven by a female accomplice.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Vining said the man's use of a weapon during the robbery was a "serious" concern.

Police believe the car is similar to a Toyota Levin, Toyota Curren or a Mazda Unos, and is either blue or green in colour.

The female driver is described as being mid-20s, Maori, with long dark hair. The man is a "slim and pale-skinned Maori", between 1.75 metres and 1.78m tall, wearing dark clothing.

The man fled with cash and tobacco.
