Police are still trying to work out which weapon was used in the death of a 36-year-old Northland man this morning.
A homicide investigation has been launched after a man's body was found in a house on Whananaki North Rd in Whangarei.
Police were called to a serious incident at 10am and the man, a Whangarei local, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another local man who knew the deceased is being interviewed by police, area commander Tracy Phillips said.
A cause of death has yet to be established, though police say it's possible a knife was used in the attack.
Police still had a scene examination to complete this evening.
"We haven't done a full scene examination yet. We are hoping a post mortem will be completed this weekend," Phillips said.
"We have a hell of a lot of inquiries to make."
The house where the deceased was found, was not his home, she said.
No-one else at the address reported any serious injuries.
The area has been cordoned off and police are not looking to speak with anyone else at this stage.
