The parent P epidemic hitting New Zealand
P is now the biggest reason for parents losing custody of their children, it is being reported.
"I call it an epidemic," Kate Bundle, the chief executive of the Grandparents Supporting Grandchildren Trust told RNZ.
P addiction of parents was the biggest driver behind children being cared for by grandparents, the trust said.
"About 85 per cent of the calls we get from caregivers who are having to take on the care of their grandchildren - it is because of methamphetamine," Bundle said.
Use of the drug was increasing, she told RNZ.
