A man charged with murder after the body of a woman was found in her Wellington home yesterday has been remanded in custody to a secure psychiatric hospital.

The man’s name was suppressed after an application from his lawyer Janine Bonifant today to Wellington District Court judge Phil Moran.

A report will be produced to determine his fitness to plead and instruct a lawyer.

The man is charged with the murder of the woman, aggravated burglary, and breach of a protection order.

He will appear in the High Court at Wellington in December.

Police went to the property after a call to emergency services about 1.17am yesterday. They found a woman dead and the man injured.

The family of the dead woman is travelling from Australia.
