Police have launched an investigation after a suspicious death in Tauranga.

A man, believed to be a 52-year-old local, was found dead by neighbours this morning at an address in the suburb of Merivale .

The property has been cordoned off along with an area of the nearby Merivale Primary School for a scene examination by police and ESR.

Police are searching the area while a post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

No more information on the man will be released until police have notified his next of kin.
