Two masked men robbed a cash transit van at gunpoint in West Auckland this afternoon.

The men approached the van outside the Massey Pharmacy in Don Buck Rd about 12.15pm. They demanded cash from the two staff members who were loading an ATM, Detective Corey Brown said.

Cash bags were stolen.

Brown said one of the masked men was holding a firearm. Both men wore dark clothing and balaclava-type masks covered their faces and heads.

The offenders fled on foot to a waiting car believed to have been driven by a third man.

The vehicle, a 2002 Mazda Premacy had been stolen earlier today and was found abandoned about 10 minutes later in a car park about 2 kilometres from the scene in Westgate Drive, behind the ANZ bank.

Brown said the two cash transit van staff members were shaken by the incident but not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Waitakere police.
