Police are treating the death of a woman in Northland as a homicide.

The woman, a 26-year-old believed to be a mother of one, was killed after an alleged assault at a Te Hana property, north of Wellsford.

Emergency services arrived in the scene about 4am after being told a woman there had suffered a fatal trauma.

Her body will remain at the home until police have completed a scene examination.

A 40-year-old man will appear in the North Shore District Court tomorrow in relation to the incident, but it is not clear what charges he will face.
