A Whanganui home destroyed by fire just days before Christmas is thought to have been torched by burglars.

The blaze shortly after 8am at a house in the suburb of Aramoho today was ‘‘well involved’’ by the time firefighters arrived, a Fire Service spokeswoman said.

No-one was injured in the fire. However, police were treating it as suspicious and the report from firefighters at the scene suggested it had been ‘‘burgled and torched,’’ the spokeswoman said. 

Fire safety investigators were working to determine the cause of the blaze, she added.
