A 40-year-old man has appeared in the North Shore District Court charged with the murder of a Te Hana woman yesterday.

Jasmin Cooper, 26, believed to be a mother of one, was killed after an alleged assault at a property at the settlement, north of Wellsford.

Emergency services arrived at the property about 4am yesterday after being told a woman there had suffered a fatal trauma.

The man was today remanded in custody until his next hearing, on February 5 at the High Court in Auckland.

He was granted interim name suppression.
