A rural South Auckland house, which burned down yesterday, has been confirmed as a P lab.

Emergency services were called to the house fire on Helenslee Rd in Pokeno just after 4pm and immediately classified the blaze as “suspicious”.

A fire communications spokesman said several units were called to the scene and two tankers also had to be sent in to provide extra water.

The extent of the blaze meant the house almost collapsed, he said.

"She's absolutely buggered," said one neighbour.

A police spokeswoman today said the house had been used for manufacturing methamphetamine but it was still unknown whether it had burned down as a result of an explosion or arson.

No-one was injured in the fire and no-one has yet been arrested over the alleged offending that was taking place at the house.

People in surrounding properties said they had never seen the people who lived there.
