A woman has appeared in court after a man was shot in Auckland overnight.

The 39-year-old man was in a serious but stable condition after receiving a single gunshot wound to the chest  at a house in Sabulite Rd, Kelston, Auckland.

A 39-year old woman was arrested at the house and was charged in  Waitakere District court today  with common assault.

Police said a .22 rifle was recovered from the house.

The 19-year-old daughter of the man and woman was also at the house and was unharmed.
