Police are hunting for two men after the armed robbery of a security van in Whangarei this afternoon.

A man approached one of the security van guards about 2.30pm today outside a building on Bank St and pointed a gun at him.

The man managed to get a sum of money and then left the scene in a car driven by another man.

Police found the black 1999 Subaru Forrester abandoned about 3.30pm on Raumanga Heights Dr.

The car is believed to have been stolen.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the car around the Whangarei area between 7.45am and 3.30pm today. Anyone with information should contact Whangarei police on 09 430 4500.
