Police are hunting for a man after officers were threatened with a gun this evening in Auckland.

At around 6.25pm two police officers stopped a man on Ruawai Road in Mount Wellington who was acting suspiciously.

The manthen presented a black handgun and threatened the officers before escaping through residential properties.

A cordon around the area was established but police have been unable to find him.

Police are seeking a man aged in his late 20s-early 30s, wearing a black fleece jacket, black pants and sneakers. He is about 180cm tall and has short hair.

Anyone in the area who has seen anyone fitting this description is asked to call police on 111 and not to approach him.
